Practitioners Workshop Day 1 - Full Replay

Day 2: November 16

The second session of the Practitioners workshop included a presentation by MYCAP’s Co-Founder, Reverend Jeffrey Brown. He was joined (by video) by successful practitioners Troy Martinez. Both shared insights into the various groups that need to be engaged in partnership when mobilizing for a Season of Peace in your community, including schools, hospitals, media, law enforcement officials, youth agencies and more.

Preparation for mobilization…

Across the country, trailblazers have been working to end cycles of violence and build prosperous communities.  My City at Peace was pleased and excited to convene the 2021 Season of Peace (SoP) Virtual Conference. This year's conference was held via Zoom on June 22-24. With the generous support of LISC and Hult International School of Business, this conference was dedicated to preparing faith and community leaders, law enforcement leaders, and policy leaders focused on initiating practical and holistic direct action in violence reduction.

At this year's conference, participants engaged in new and creative ideas for youth violence reduction that can be replicated this summer and beyond. Sessions included dialogue between police and practitioners to lead to meaningful strategies amidst calls to defund. From what’s working on the streets, to policing in the era of George Floyd, and what the policy implications are moving forward, over 200 participants were able to discuss, debate and determine some action items to continue moving this important work forward.

Here’s a word on the origins of the conference from Co-Founder Reverend Jeffrey Brown.

America needs bold action to revive, empower, and transform disenfranchised communities into resilient places of peace and prosperity. We are pleased that an outcome of this gathering are several resources to share.

Our exceptional speakers provided many insights into the work of violence reduction, including their thoughts on the practice, policing and policy in our nation’s communities. Click the button below to review their thoughts and submit your own to continue building our virtual toolkit.
